Sandra Gewehr, president of the EMCA (European Mosquito Control Association) was invited by the Director of the Anastasia Mosquito Control District (AMCD, Florida, USA), Dr. Rui-De Xue, who is also the president of the AMCA (American Mosquito Control Association), to the 19th Annual arbovirus surveillance and mosquito control workshop of the AMCD.
Mrs Gewehr gave a presentation entitled “Mosquito control in Europe: the role of the EMCA”. At the initiative of Dr. Florence Fouque of the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases of the World Health Organization (TDR/WHO), responsible WHO Officer for the development of WHO-EMCA guidelines for mosquito control, the presidents of AMCA and EMCA agreed upon signing a bilateral MoU for the scientific and educational cooperation of the two organizations.
Within this perspective, Sandra Gewehr will propose to the members of the EMCA board the organization of a joint workshop with the AMCA board, on the occasion of the next AMCA conference, to be held in Puerto Rico in March 2025, eventually coordinated and supported by the TDR/WHO.
